Quick Notes
The built-in folder for notes you haven't filed yet — where new notes land by default, and how to move them on.
Quick Notes is the folder for notes that don’t have a home yet. It sits pinned at the top of the sidebar, Banter manages it for you, and it’s where a note goes when you haven’t said where it belongs.
What makes it different
- It’s always there. You can’t rename it, move it, or send it to Trash, and it holds notes but not subfolders. Every other folder is yours to shape.
- Notes are meant to leave. With background suggestions on (the default), Banter reads a quick note once it has some substance and proposes where it belongs — and a proper title if it needs one. You apply or dismiss the proposal in Suggestions, or let it apply on its own by turning on Auto-apply knowledge base improvements.
- AI sees it too. The assistant and any connected AI see it as the
/Quick Notesfolder.
How notes end up here
- New note with no folder selected. With All Notes selected, the New Note button in the sidebar header creates the note in Quick Notes. Select a folder first and the note is created there instead.
- Quick Notes selected. Select Quick Notes and click New Note in the sidebar header. (While Quick Notes is empty, its page also offers New quick note.)
- Extension recordings. A recording started from the extension, or from a meeting’s Record with Banter button, creates a new note in Quick Notes unless you pick another destination — for that one recording from the button’s menu, or as the default in Settings → Connections → Chrome extension → Recording destination. The Current note option also falls back to Quick Notes when no note is open in Banter.
- Calendar-matched recordings. When the extension matches a recording to a calendar event, the new note takes the event’s title and lands here like any other extension recording, unless you picked another destination.
Filing a quick note
- Drag it from the note list onto a folder in the sidebar.
- Use the menu. Right-click the note (or open its ⋮ menu), choose Move, and pick the folder.
- Apply the suggestion. If Banter has already proposed a folder, apply it from Suggestions.
- Ask. “Move my quick notes about Acme into /Work/Acme” works in the assistant and from a connected AI.
Dragging a note onto Quick Notes works too, for something filed too early.
