Connect your accounts
Connect Google or Microsoft calendars and mail so the assistant can use them alongside your notes.
Connect your calendar or mailbox to let the assistant prepare for meetings, check your availability, find email conversations, and draft replies from your notes.
Connect a calendar or mailbox
- Open Settings → Connections and find Connected accounts.
- Under Google or Microsoft, choose Calendar or Mail.
- Choose the account on the provider’s sign-in screen and approve the requested access.
- Return to Banter. The account appears with a separate Calendar and Mail line. Wait for its first sync or mail copy to finish.
Google supports Google Workspace and personal accounts. Microsoft supports Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com. You can connect more than one account, including accounts different from the one you use to sign in to Banter.
In the native apps, sign-in opens and finishes in your system browser. Return to the Banter app after connecting; its connection status refreshes when you bring it back to the foreground.
Calendar and Mail are separate choices. Connecting one does not connect the other. To add the other later, press Connect on its line under the same address. No preview setting is required.
Use the connections through the assistant: ask it to check your calendar or draft an event, or read and draft email. Connecting an account does not add a calendar grid or an email inbox to Banter’s navigation.
Permissions and confirmation
The initial Calendar connection lets Banter read calendars you own; the initial Mail connection lets it read that account’s mailbox. Reading mail does not mark it as read, move it, or delete it in Gmail or Outlook.
Sending email requires separate permission. Banter asks for it when you first press Send on an email draft card. After granting permission, review the card and press Send again. The assistant cannot send the draft for you, including when automatic acceptance of note edits is enabled.
Creating calendar events also requires separate permission, requested the first time you confirm a calendar draft card. The provider’s permission screen may describe broader calendar editing access; Banter currently uses that write access to create the one-off events you confirm. Granting access does not create the event: review the card and press Create event or Create & invite again.
For either permission prompt, choose the same Google or Microsoft account shown on the draft card. In the browser, Banter returns to the original chat after consent. In a native app, return to that chat in the app yourself. If the prompt repeats, check that you chose the matching account and approved all requested access.
If a connection needs attention
The account’s lines show sync status, mail-copy progress, and errors. The first mail copy may take time; the assistant can only read messages copied so far.
If Needs reconnect appears, press Reconnect on the affected line and approve access again for the same account. Already copied mail and calendar events stay readable while syncing is paused, so they may be out of date. Reconnect repairs access without clearing those copies or drafts.
If a provider says connections are currently unavailable, press Request access. Review the prefilled feedback message with your chosen provider and Calendar/Mail options, then press Send to let us know. This sends a request; it does not connect your account.
Disconnect
Open Settings → Connections, press Disconnect on the Calendar or Mail line, and confirm. Disconnecting one leaves the other connected.
- Calendar: removes that account’s synced calendars, events, and Banter calendar drafts.
- Mail: removes Banter’s copied mailbox and its Banter email drafts.
Your original calendars and mailbox are unchanged. Text already saved in notes or chats remains there. Microsoft may continue listing Banter in your account’s app permissions after the last connection is removed; remove that listing in Microsoft if you want to revoke it there too.
Connecting again starts a fresh copy with the initial sync limits described in the calendar and email guides; it does not restore removed drafts. If an event creation or email send has an uncertain result, resolve it from its original card before disconnecting. Disconnecting cannot undo a request already sent to Google or Microsoft.
