Editor basics
Slash commands, markdown shortcuts, links between notes, and the keyboard shortcuts worth learning.
Banter’s editor is a markdown editor with structure on top: tasks, images, recordings, and links to other notes all live inline in the document.
Writing
- Type / for the command menu — headings, lists, task lists, images, and more.
- Markdown shortcuts work as you type:
#for a heading,-for a list,[]for a task. - Paste or drag images straight into the note.
- Recordings appear as blocks inside the note — the call lives next to the notes about it, not in a separate library.
Linking notes
Type @ to link another note. Start typing a title and pick from recent notes or search. Links render as chips you can click through, and the linked note automatically shows a “Referenced by” backlink — the connection works both ways without maintenance.
Linking is what makes a workspace more than a pile of documents: the account note links the discovery call, the proposal links the account note, and the assistant can walk those links when you ask about the deal.
Moving around
- Cmd+O — quick open. Search notes and folders by name, jump anywhere.
- Drag notes and folders in the sidebar to reorganize.
- Right-click a folder to rename or move it, or to edit its instructions.
Keyboard shortcuts
| Shortcut | Does |
|---|---|
| Cmd+O | Quick open — search and jump to any note or folder |
| Cmd+L | Open/close the assistant |
| Cmd+Shift+L | Send the selected text to the assistant |
| Cmd+Shift+S | Screenshot into the open note (with the extension) |
| Esc | Close whatever’s open — search, assistant, dialogs |
(Ctrl instead of Cmd on Windows and Linux.)
